As the Video Products Director for the Deseret News, you'll lead a small, scrappy team of devoted journalists to find and tell visual stories of various lengths for our online and social media audiences.

This position will challenge you to bring your best video production, organization and leadership skills to bear. To be successful, you'll need to find the proper balance between artistic storytelling and appealing to a broad audience. Success is measured by a combination of output, quality, reach and engagement. But the most important measurement will be delivering informative videos to an audience that consumes, likes and shares them.

You'll report to the head digital officer and work closely with various Deseret News teams, including editorial, product, marketing and sales.

  • Help develop and execute Deseret News video strategy
  • Plan and produce video products both independent of and related to news reporting
  • Drive consumption of videos across various distribution channels
  • Coordinate with the sales department on monetization opportunities and packages
  • Ensure that Deseret News video products meet legal and licensing requirements
  • Instill a culture of creativity and innovation, trying new ideas that align with our mission and brand

You're a good fit if you:

  • Have a bachelor's degree in journalism, film, or a related field of study, and/or relevant experience
  • Have at least 5 years of strong video production experience
  • Thrive working closely with a team to deliver a project on time and under budget
  • Spend 3-5 hours a week watching videos on YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram and Facebook
  • Find yourself analyzing camera tech, shot composition, sound and lighting techniques, and storytelling devices and the filing ideas away in your mind for future reference/replication

You're an even better fit if you:

  • Know why Werner Herzog once boiled and ate a piece of his shoe
  • Grew up reading newspapers and news weeklies and now pay out-of-pocket for one or more print or digital news subscriptions
  • Can demonstrate that videos you've produced have amassed millions of views online
